The Little Thief: So-so personality picture of the title lass, a disassociated, amoral adolescent floating thiough life in postwar France. If she comes off as a girl Antoine Doinel, it's since the original tale was cowritten by Francois Truffuut, who was allegedly preparing to film this at the time of his demise. Cast includes Charlotte Gainsbourg, Didier Bezace, Simon de la Brosse, Nathalie Cardone, and Raoul Billerey. (104 minutes, 1989)

Murphy's Romance: Youthful divorcee (with twelve-year-old child) makes new start in little Arizona town, where she's allured to an older laid-back widowed pharmacist. This movie is an intriguing, carefree comedy written by Irving Ravetch and Harriet Frank, Jr. Cast includes Sally Field, James Garner, Brian Kerwin, Corey Haim, Dennis Burkley, Georgann Johnson, and Charles Aisle. (107 minutes, 1985)

The Thief of Paris: Intense comedy-drama with personal problems turning Belmondo to thievery for reprisal against the world. Eventually he finds that robbery has become his entire life. Cast includes Jean-Paul Belmondo, Genevieve Bujold, Marie Dubois, Francoise Fabian, and Julien Guiomar. (119 minutes, 1967)

The Believer: Brutal evaluation of a yeshiva informed youthful guy in N.Y.C. who opts to become a neo-Nazi skinhead. Gosling gives a steller performance as a Jew (loosely based on truth) whose rationale is controversial however whose desire is genuine. R. Cast includes Ryan Gosling, Summer Phoenix, Billy Zane, Theresa Russell, Glenn Fitzgerald, Ronald Guttman, and Henry Bean. (98 minutes, 2002)

Marie Antoinette: Visually sumptuous account of an adolescent's voyage from Vienna to the Palace at Versailles and the throne of France. Author-director Coppola's Marie (as played by Dunst) is a modern-day gal, with contemporary music set contrary to the pomp and circumstance of the 18th century life. Starts to tire eventually and ends with a cry, not a smash although there's much to like here. Cast includes Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Judy Davis, Tear Tom, Steve Coogan, Rose Byrne, Asia Argento, Molly Shannon, Shirley Henderson, Danny Huston, Marianne Faithfull, Mary Nighy, and Sarah Adler. (123 minutes, 2006)

Chelsea Walls: Impressionistic ode to N.Y.C.'s fabled Chelsea Hotel and the ghosts of tormented creative souls like Bob Dylan who influenced the present inhabitants, from a recently found Midwestern folksinger to a booze-ridden novelist who couldn't get his act together. Cast includes Kevin Corrigan, Rosario Dawson, Vincent D'Onofrio, Robert Sean Leonard, Kris Kristofferson, Natasha Richardson, Little Jimmy Scott, John Seitz, Uma Thurman, Mark Weber, Tuesday Weid, Steve Zahn, and Christopher Walken. (112 minutes, 2002)

Bourder Incident: Well put together tale of the U.S. boarder patrol trying to stem the tide of the smuggling of immigrants across Texas-Mexico boundary. Cast includes Ricardo Montalban, George Murphy, Howard da Silva, and Charles McGraw. (92 minutes, 1949)

Air America: Guides Mel and Bob are part of the C.IA.'s smuggling operation in Laos throughout the Vietnam War. They crate anything and anyone anyplace. Too bad they couldn't soar in a script physician. Supposed action comedy has few giggles and makes little sense. Cast includes Mel Gibson, Robert Downey, Jr., Nancy Travis, David Marshall Grant, Aisle Smith, Ken Jenkins, and Art La Fleur. (112 minutes, 1990)

PCV: Partisan correctness is out of sorts at Port Chester University which leads to the unavoidable conflict between a cadre of excessively militant scholar groups and a college girl group who revel in their political incorrectness. Cast includes Jeremy Piven, Chris Youthful, David Spade, Megan Ward, Jon Favreau, Jessica Walter, Sarah Spark, Jake Busey, and George Clinton. (80 minutes, 1994)
